PEGGY MCINTOSH (nee THOMPSON) It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Emily (Peggy) McIntosh, beloved wife, mother and amma, on Thursday morning, May 7, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Steinn O. and Thordis Thompson of Riverton, brothers Johnny and Bob, and sister Dorothy. She will be forever remembered and loved by her husband of 55 years, Cec; children, Grant, Heather and Gail; grandsons Steinn and Stefan; sister-in-law Irene and numerous relatives and friends. Peggy was born and raised in Riverton; she loved her life there and often told amusing tales of her childhood adventures. Even after she left to continue her education in Winnipeg, the town, its people and her Icelandic heritage were always close to her heart. Peggy completed her Grade 12 at United College, followed by her RN training at the Winnipeg General Hospital. Upon graduation in 1950, she worked as a public health nurse in Beausejour where she met Cec. They moved back to Winnipeg shortly after and Peggy continued to work in various hospitals while raising their children. Peggy was an extraordinary woman and an inspiration to those around her; she had such a positive, and often humorous, outlook on life and saw the best in everyone she knew. Her devotion to her family was beyond compare, and she was our strongest supporter in whatever we did. She was blessed with two wonderful grandsons and doted on them in a way that only an amma could, showering them with endless hugs, kisses and treats. She also loved summers at the family cottage at Beaver Creek, the many road trips to the States after Cec's retirement, a hearty laugh, a challenging crossword puzzle, a thick slice of vinarterta, and a good feed of Lake Winnipeg pickerel. We benefited immensely from her unconditional love, her words of wisdom and gentle encouragement. Her memory will live on through the stories she was so fond of sharing with her children and grandchildren. We feel so privileged to have been a part of her family; there is no greater gift. Heartfelt thanks to the palliative home care nurses and staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E. In keeping with Peggy's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private family service will be held at the Riverton Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peggy's name to a charity of your choice. We love you and miss you more than words can say. All in peace await the radiant angel of the dawn. Goda nott. - Guttormur Guttormsson
